| Photo by Reuters/Kim Kyung-Hoon Sony’s consumer electronics business has mostly relied on strong PlayStation sales, but the Japanese tech giant has seen some fresh success from its upgraded Aibo model.
Sony plans to bring its “autonomous robotic ‘puppy’ companion” to the US ahead of the holidays. New features enable the Aibo to learn tricks, and even develop its own personality.
Robots are coming to the home
In Japan, household robots have gotten increasingly popular. One such model is SoftBank’s Pepper robot, which is becoming a high-tech example of advanced social wellness and healthcare.
The Aibo could fit into that trend with improvements like facial recognition and deep-learning software. Sony has sold more than 20,000 new Aibos since January.
