And so far, they have managed to find players willing to spend big both on everything from useful items, like weapons and tools, to purely aesthetic ones, like outfits.

Fortnite’s success is part of a wider boom. Players spent almost $9.1 billion in digital games across platforms in April, said SuperData, up from $7.4 billion in the previous year.
