Growth in shipments of mobile phones remained flat last year for the first time, according to Mary Meeker’s internet trends report, presented yesterday (May 30) at the Code conference in California.

And growth in the number of internet users is also down: Only 7% in 2017, from 12% in 2016.
But that does not mean people are less attached to their gadgets: The number of hours spent staring at phones continued to grow, to 3.3 hours in 2017, or about four times what it was in 2011.
If other devices are included, the time spent with gadgets jumps to 5.9 hours per day.
