The creator of bitcoin was among the 50 richest people in the world this weekend

Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of cryptocurrency bitcoin, owns 980,000 bitcoins. Over the weekend, bitcoin reached almost $20,000. At that value, Nakamoto would own $19.4 billion.

At that level of wealth, Nakamoto is among the 50 richest people in the world, between Stefan Persson, the owner of Swedish retailer H&M, and Theo Albrecht, the owner of German grocer Aldi.

But when the price of bitcoin fell to almost $18,000, Nakamoto’s worth plunged by more than $1 billion. The bitcoin creator’s position in the richest people list followed suit.

Overall, Nakamoto is gaining. Back in October, when one bitcoin was priced $6,000, the creator of bitcoin had only $5.9 billion, and was only among the 250 richest people in the world.
