Now under construction, Google’s London campus will stretch over 1,082 feet—longer than the height of London’s tallest building, the 1,016 feet Shard.

Google’s London campus will have a rooftop garden, a swimming pool, and an indoor basketball court. It will cost £1 billion (US $1.3 billion) and have space for 7,000 employees.

But significantly, it will not be a skyscraper, but a “landscraper.”

Landscrapers could become more common—if not in crowded megacities like New York, then in areas that have large tracts of land available for construction.

These long buildings could need elevators that move horizontally, a technology that has already been developed by ThyssenKrupp.
