Tesla increased the battery power of its cars so drivers could escape Hurricane Irma

Tesla unlocked battery power of Model S and Model X cars in Florida so drivers could escape Hurricane Irma. Batteries went from a maximum capacity of 60 kWh and 70 kWh to 75 kWh.

Those models come with batteries of 60 kWh or 70 kWh. Drivers have to spend $3,000 to unlock its maximum capacity of 75 kWh.
But because people had to evacuate from certain areas of Florida to escape the hurricane, Tesla unlocked that extra capacity for free between Sept. 9 and Sept. 16.
With more battery power, drivers are able to travel longer distances with just one charge. With 75 kWh, they can make 250 miles.
